Promoting Apprenticeships in the UK

Apprenticeships: Paid qualifications

You may be in your last year of Sixth Form or College (like I was). You may be midway through your university degree. You may be just completely lost but you know you are passionate to have a successful career. There are various opportunities for you to explore within apprenticeships.

Initially, I was being urged by my teachers and parents to go to University. However, I didn’t like the idea of spending more time in a classroom environment doing something I’m not sure that I would’ve liked. Therefore, I picked to do an apprenticeship.

There are four types of apprenticeships in the UK
As you would with university, please do research into what apprenticeship you want to do – that includes which level!

What is an Apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a program where apprentices get paid to work and also study to achieved a qualification.

Benefits of being an Apprentice

Apprenticeships provide young people opportunities to experience real life working scenarios (which are near impossible to replicate in the lecture halls of universities). There is no pressure for apprentices to focus on one specific area of the role or company. In addition, the employees are aware that the main focus is to learn and grow. Therefore apprentices will be exposed to multiple facets of the organisation. This allows the individual to get a better understanding of the industry and of themselves (a better understanding of what they like to work on).

I’ve now been working as a digital marketing apprentice at Google for 12 months now. 80% of my time is spent on the job and I’ve worked on multiple projects across different teams, and the other 20% is spent with Multiverse. At Multiverse I spend my time learning the fundamentals of marketing and how I can corporate that into my main role at work.
