Starting a new role can be daunting and you want to make the most out of your role, especially as an apprentice on a contract. Apprenticeships can last anywhere from 12 months or more so it’s important to gain as much skills and knowledge as possible. Here are a few tips on getting the most out of your time.
Tip 1: Building connections
There are many workers within your company completing different roles daily. Whether there’s an area of work you’d like to get better in or explore other positions, connecting with others is a great form of building relationships. Schedule some time to have 1:1 with others and understand more about their role. This way you can ask questions or learn how they got to the role they’re in today.
Linkedin is a great platform to increase your visibility.
Tip 2: Organise your time
Find the right balance between performing your job role and completing your apprenticeship assignments. The best way to do this is to block out some time in your calendar every week to spend it on learning.
Tip 3: Participate and take action
Remember, you are an employee just like everyone else. Don’t be afraid to get stuck in and suggest any ideas. Employers are looking for new creative alternatives and ideas to do things differently. This is your chance to take on a leadership role and present your ideas forward.
Tip 4: Take on internal roles
Many apprenticeship providers host their own internal roles, events and blogs. Be sure to check on their web page to see what they have going on and if there’s anything you’re interested in. Not only does this help you build more skills, but it’s a great form to grow your connections.
Finally, enjoy your journey. When completing an apprenticeship it is important to make the most out of your time but also have fun in your new role.
