Apprenticeship Interview Tips

So you’ve successfully got an interview for the apprenticeship of your dreams, well done! Sitting down for an apprenticeship interview can be very anxiety-inducing. perhaps you may not know what to expect, or what’s going to be expected of you! Here are some top tips that will help you smash that interview

Tip 1 – Talk About You

During an interview, it can be tempting to only focus on your academics, the work you have done and pretty much anything that you think will impress your potential employer.

While this is all important information, the company is going to want to hear about you as a person! Talk about your hobbies, aspirations, likes and dislikes, and maybe even something you have done outside of work that you are proud of. At the end of the day, there’s so much more to you than your work.

Tip 2 – Be Receptive To Questions

Your interviewer will be looking for many different qualities in the person they want to hire, strong interpersonal skills being one of them.

This means that you should be ready for anything, including follow up questions to your answers and pretty much anything else you say. Having generally good conversational skills will show that you will have no problems conversing with clients, customers and other employees.

Show passion and encourage as much engagement from your interviewer as you can.

Tip 3 – Be Ready To Ask Questions

So you’ve spoken about yourself, impressed your interviewer and nailed the interview, but it’s not over just yet. Make sure that you have at least a couple of questions to ask the interviewer as well.

This will not only show that you have a genuine interest in the company but also will be a chance for you to learn more about the role and whether or not the company is right for you. Some good questions to ask would be “What progression opportunities are available here?”, “What is the culture like at this company”, or “How will my learning/role be balanced?”.

A job interview is not only one-sided. it’s a chance for both the interviewer and the candidate to understand more about each other and find out if it’s a good fit.

Tip 4 –  Prepare Prepare Prepare!

Prepare your outfit, Prepare your research and prepare your talking points. Make sure that every part of your interview is as watertight as it can be. You can never know what’s going to happen, but you can make sure that you’re as ready as you can be. Your interviewer will notice your efforts and give you much more consideration than somebody who showed up without full preparation.

At the end of the day, all you can do is try your best, give it your all and you with either succeed or learn something for the next time!
