Is an Apprenticeship really for me?
When you’re about to leave school or if you’re thinking about what career path you want to go down it is a big decision- we’ve all been there!
Hearing about various routes you can take, whether it be university or an apprenticeship, then how to go about it, can be a little stressful and a scary process if you have no idea where to begin. That is why I suggest always to do your own research and be consistent with your approach!
From a young age it’s drilled into us that the next steps we take are the most important ones at this point in our lives because it essentially decides the future you would like to map out for yourself.
This is wise advice which is why you will always want to outweigh your options based on where you think you will truly thrive. An apprenticeship is pretty much a head-start in the field you would like to work in, you gain so much experience and learn how to do your future job in the best way by shadowing professionals in the field. What greater way is there to learn than to fully emerce yourself in such a skilled environment.
For me choosing to go down the apprenticeship option was never a hard decision- and that is because I always knew I was an active learner who loves to dive into the deep end and learn as I go.
As the common saying goes ‘practice makes perfect’ you will probably hear this saying for the rest of your life, but its words tell no lie! I knew that to become the ideal employee I would need to bag as many skills as possible and practice practice practice! and that is what I love about my decision, the endless opportunities that stem from an apprenticeship still surprise me to this day.
A key pointer is that research is your best friend. I did my research but I knew the ins and outs of how an apprenticeship would boost my career and give me all the required skills and qualifications to set me on the career path I wanted to follow.
So overall for me this was a very brief process because I knew I was best suited to jump into a role of my interest and crack on with my career from the get go.
The options are endless and an apprenticeship may just be the perfect route for you! It just depends on what you hope to gain in the initial stages of your career and what type of results you would ultimately like to take away with you and take to your new or next career!
