“Don’t be afraid to ask for help, especially when you’re starting new.” – Jassi’s advice
What is a Digital Marketing Apprenticeship?
before we get into my advice a digital marketing apprenticeship is
- an 18 month scheme
- where you work on the strategic promotion of a product or brand
- while expanding your knowledge through continuous workshops hosted by your apprenticeship provider.
What do you do day to day as a digital marketer?
As a marketer, you are constantly tasked with understanding which platforms are going to be most beneficial to your company. I assist Paramount by marketing our streaming services using online media platforms such as Google, Meta and Tiktok.
Digital marketing is very strategic. Therefore using data in order to understand how the customers behavior will help you articulate your message.
You don’t need a degree to become an apprentice
Yes you heard it right, , you don’t need a qualification to land a role as a digital marketing apprentice. After all, it’s an apprenticeship – you’re there to learn and improve new skills.
You will be surprised to know that in marketing there is plenty of room to identify areas that really interests you.
Some roles within digital marketing include
- Paid search specialist
- Community manager
- Social media manager
- Performance marketing manager
- Copywriter
- SEO specialist
Stay up to date with the industry and follow trends
Being agile and keeping up to speed on popular trends is necessary in any industry but especially in digital marketing. In digital marketing, things are constantly evolving and changing as the digital marketing tools are always in beta and improving.
Staying up to date with trends, you can find creative ways to stand apart from your competition. There are plenty of ways to stay up to date on digital marketing news and trends.
Everyday is a different day
Reflecting on my placement at Paramount, I find that no day will ever be the same. You’ll get to work with different departments across the business who all have a shared goal of growing the business
For example, one day you might be creating and editing a paid social media campaign for PlutoTV, the next day you could help assist a brand campaign for Paramount+.
You’ll always have an opportunity to be a part of many projects.
Everything is learning curve
Don’t be afraid to ask for help, especially when you’re starting new.
Remember that the employer and apprenticeship provider are rooting for you and your progress. You’re there to learn so there is no need to be scared when asking for guidance. Furthermore, they’re not going to expect you to know everything, so don’t be afraid to ask plenty of questions.
It may feel a little nerve-racking when you’re asking for help, we have all been there before
