What is an apprenticeship and is it right for you?
An apprenticeship is a paid job, in which the employee ( you) learns and gains valuable experiences. Alongside on the job training, apprentices spend at least 20% of their working hours completing classroom based learning with a university, college or training provider, which eventually leads to a nationally recognised qualification.
By choosing an apprenticeship, you will be able to gain new skills while also getting corporate experience. Not only will this help you in the furniture, it also allows you to network with like minded business people who can also help you in your career. You will learn.


Day in the life as an apprentice –
As an apprentice, you will have various responsibilities. During the first few months of the program, you will most likely be completing training and learning how your team works and innovates. Introducing yourself to your team and other work colleagues is also a great start to establish yourself into the business. Your work tasks and apprenticeship coursework are equally as important but you will need to understand when one needs prioritising. Learning to balance between both is a skill in itself, which comes from practice!


As you get settled in, your workload and responsibilities are likely to increase. Although this may be daunting, communication between your manager and apprenticeship coach is a great way to set objectives and realistic goals. You are never alone in this process so try to enjoy this experience as well!

You may also need to shadow colleagues to understand their role within the business. Shadowing is a great way to comprehend new skills and network between departments.
