That’s why apprenticeships exist, and The Apprenticeship Network is here to connect you to the best apprenticeship opportunities in the UK, as well as providing you with the advice you need! So with that, here’s some top tips for smashing your apprenticeship interview:
1. Do your research! 💻
You don’t need to know the ins and outs of the industry – that’s what the apprenticeship is for! Our first tip for a successful apprenticeship interview is to read up on some quick articles, look at some infographics, listen to a podcast on your walk… Getting familiarised with the basics will help you stand out among other candidates.
2. Make sure you know what you are applying for. ✔️
Read and re-read the job description. You will be dedicating over a year of your life to this apprenticeship, so make it count. Is this role right for you? If so, get applying! If not, maybe spend some more time searching. It may be a great company with good pay, but you don’t want to throw yourself into a career you won’t enjoy. Have a think about how you are perfect for the role. Take each bullet point and apply it to yourself. If you absolutely do not have a real-world example, get creative! For example, if they want to hire somebody who will know how to speak to clients/customers, but you have no experience in doing so, think about a time you received great customer service. Explain what they did, and how this made you feel, so that’s how you plan to treat customers.
3. Interview yourself to stay prepared 💭
If you have a specific role in mind, doing some quick research into commonly asked interview questions for that role. There are also some very common staples, such as ‘Tell us about a time you encountered a problem, and how did you react to it?’. Don’t allow yourself to be put on the spot! We all talk to ourselves in our mind, so why not interview yourself whilst you’re staring out the window on the bus! This will prevent you from being put on the spot, and allow for a flowing conversation with your interviewers. Not only will this calm your nerves, but it will increase your chances of building a connection with your interviewers so they can see your for the amazing candidate you are!
