The top 3 reasons why I wish I started with an Apprenticeship

Growing up in the UK, most pupils like myself go through the linear streamlined education system nursey to college with ease taking tests and knowing what to expect…

Suddenly, in my teen years, I found myself burdened with the daunting pressure of deciding what to do after I had completed my A-levels. A decision that would shape the rest of my life and was solely up to me to make. But alas, what other option did I have?

The only route I had been indoctrinated to be university, and to do anything else was frowned upon by my family and friends.

If only I had some information about these facts before I decided… I would probably have saved a year before I changed into an apprenticeship.

Luckily for you, here are some reasons for you:

Why Just Study When You Can Earn and Learn?

My apprenticeship is a well-paid position, I am earning a salary whilst I learn. This is a significant financial benefit to me. In university, I had loads of debt whilst living off my student loan and a part-time job.

My apprenticeship allowed me to obtain practical, on-the-job experience in a particular profession. Compared to when I was in university, where the emphasis is frequently on theoretical knowledge, this is a significant advantage. I now thoroughly understand my industry and I will be more equipped for the job after completing my apprenticeship.

Apprenticeships: The Key to Unlocking Industry Connections

My apprenticeship has been a great way for me to build connections within my industry. I have had the opportunity to work with experienced professionals and learn from them. These connections can be invaluable when finding a job after my apprenticeship is complete.

To sum up, an apprenticeship in the UK is an excellent substitute for university education for people who wish to obtain practical experience, make money while they learn, network within their field of study, and have more flexibility with regard to admittance requirements.

It may not be appropriate for everyone, and the ultimate choice will depend on the person’s preferences and career aspirations, but it is unquestionably a possibility that should be taken into account.
