Promoting Apprenticeships in the UK

Apprenticeships, a step in the right direction?

We’ve all been there, actively searching the depths of the internet, looking for that dream job. With the pressure of going to University, getting a well paid job and becoming vastly successful, there’s no wonder why you’re here. One option that’s often swept under the rug is Apprenticeships. But why are they good, and if so, are they good for you? With a 26% increase in Apprenticeship starts from 2018, what’s the reasons behind this?

The big, blinding benefits of Apprenticeships

Marvelous Money

One benefit we can all agree on is the wages. Albeit lower than the typical nine till five job, it’s always great to start earning money straight away! You’ll also have far less bills to pay in the future, resulting in more profits for you (meaning you can buy those dream gym shoes much sooner). In addition to this, you will feel so free! By this we mean you’re getting income from learning! You don’t have to pay to learn something you’re passionate about. Its a no brainer!

Exceptional Experience

As well as that, a huge benefit for taking the Apprenticeship path is your on-the-job experience. Not only are you earning valuable profits, but you are gaining invaluable exposure. This benefit is by far, one that going to Uni or College struggles to achieve. You will be gaining a priceless head-start to your Uni counterparts, as well as increased knowledge of what its really like working in your specific industry. Not to mention the many relationships you will build early on. Overall, for experience, Apprenticeships are your best friend.

Social Shenanigans

Moving on, one benefit that is often forgotten is the social aspect of Apprenticeships. Although working in a professional environment requires a great deal of maturity, there is a exception. Social activities, such as client lunches, Christmas parties and fun games are all part of the course. Not only do these allow you to build great relations with clients, they help improve your social skills. Obviously you want to make a good first impression, right? These social doings can just help with that! You will improve your confidence, learn new social skills and help yourself become a more vibrant, chatty person.

‘Time’ to track time

Furthermore, one final benefit that can be achieved through Apprenticeships is time management. If you’re like 99% of the younger population, this is likely your first full time job. Working longer hours will ultimately lead to having more work to complete during the week. Do not fear though! From experience, being in a Apprenticeship quickly and effectively teaches you how to spread out your work load. It also teaches you how to put certain pieces of work over others based on importance and value. We’re not saying you won’t have any issues with time management, but what we can say is your time skills will drastically improve by the end of the program.

Are they the right choice for you?

Apprenticeships wont be Cinderella’s shoe for everyone. Some people will benefit more from going to Uni. On top of that, some jobs require a Uni degree, which can be difficult to acquire through a Apprenticeship. Unless you take part in a higher – degree Apprenticeship, these can be very hard to get.

However, if you want to:

  • Start earning while learning
  • Gain early, priceless experience
  • Improve social skills
  • Improve time management

Then Apprenticeships are definitely a step in the right direction!
