Promoting Apprenticeships in the UK

Considering an Apprenticeship?

Are you considering an apprenticeship?

Are you considering an apprenticeship, but don’t know if it’s the right choice? It’s an important choice to make and can understandably be a difficult decision. Here are 3 reasons why you should start an apprenticeship.

Considering an apprenticeship?

1. You can earn and learn at the same time

How great is it that you can learn on the job, whilst being paid a salary? There’s no notorious student debt. Instead, you leave with a wealth of knowledge on a well-paid salary. Just this alone gives you so much freedom to enjoy the things you love.

How much can I expect to make?

This is not a straight forward question to answer, as apprenticeship pay is highly dependent on your role and its location. The hourly rate can range from £4.30 to £15.24 across all levels.

It’s best to check the job descriptions, and make sure you select an apprenticeship that will allow you to live within your means.

2. Get a head start on work experience

We all know how valuable work experience is. Unfortunately, it’s common for people to struggle getting it. At least on an apprenticeship, you have a great introduction into a field that interests you – not even for a short period of time, but usually over a year. You will get to experience things that many students wouldn’t be able to experience in even a week! Learning how people interact in the workplace, adapting to the work hours and understanding work processes takes a long time to get used to. At least by doing an apprenticeship, you’re giving yourself a realistic idea on what working a job might look like for you. You’ll find that many employers value experience highly when looking to recruit!

3. Gain desirable skills

You will be surprised at the skills you can develop on the job. Everyone says they have communication skills, which they probably have. However, communication will develop immensely as you’ll learn how to change your communication styles depending on who you’re talking to. Interpersonal, organisation, problem solving are just a few more examples of all the skills you can improve upon. These skills are transferrable, making you an amazing candidate for other paths, should you change your career in the future.
