DITL of an Digital Marketing apprentice – WFH Edition

Ever wondered what a digital marketing apprentice does? How do they contribute to the team? How much responsibility do they get? Let’s hear from Hermoine, a digital marketing apprentice at the marketing agency A Place In Space and her experience so far.

What made you want to start a digital marketing apprenticeship?

I tried the more ‘conventional’ route of going to uni and it was a very overwhelming experience. 2020 was a very turbulent year and thinking that going to uni that year would be okay was a big mistake. It was a very isolating experience with little support. My other friends were doing great and somehow were enjoying the experience away from home but I realised this wasn’t for me and decided to drop out.

I started looking for alternative options, I didn’t want to go back home and do nothing. This was when I stumbled across The Apprentice Network. I explained to the advisor what had happened and they were very nice and understanding. They pointed out that there’s a lot of support given from the coaches on the apprenticeship and then told me about options of the apprenticeships they had to offer.

Having really enjoyed studying media through my GCSE’S and A- levels, I felt that a digital marketing apprenticeship would be the best option for me. Filled in a form straight after the call which was like a mini CV that would be sent to the companies. All that was left was to wait and see if I got any interviews.

Luckily for me, a week later, I got a call back from A Place In Space marketing agency. I was so nervous but so excited about the whole application process. I was ecstatic to get a phone call a week later to say that I had got the role!

Now I’m 3 months into my apprenticeship and loving every day of it. I feel so lucky getting to learn all these new skills from such an amazing team of people.

Tell us about a day in your life at A Place In Space?

Everyday is so different, which I am very grateful for as it keeps me busy and learning, but  a typical day of my life looks like this:

6.00AM (I know early!)

I like to get up early and get in a workout before work. Today I went swimming which I love! Sticking to this routine has really helped me whilst working from home. Some days I do yoga or a HIIT.

8.00AM

I am dressed and having breakfast, going on my socials (maybe for too long) and journaling about the day ahead. I enjoy journaling and it really sets me up into a positive mindset for the day.

8.45AM

I am online looking through emails and creating a to do list with tasks that need completing today.

9.00AM

I have a daily 1:1 call with my line manager. We discuss my plans for today and how things are on my apprenticeship side of work. Any questions I have about my tasks I’ll ask her then and if there’s any other tasks she needs help on she tells me.

9.30AM

I start my first task of the day: analysing some data from a current campaign, finding out the key findings and making a note of these. I start a presentation deck and bullet point the findings to discuss with my line manager later. The presentation of the results is at the end of the week.

10.30AM

Today we have a weekly team meeting. In these meetings we catch up on the activities we did on the weekend which I love as it feels like something you would discuss if we were all in the office. There’s also team updates and success stories and training recommendations. I learn a lot from our team meetings.

12.00PM

Lunch time! I usually go for a walk to get some fresh air, go on TikTok, watch some Youtube videos and move away from my desk so I don’t feel like I’m there constantly.

1.00PM

I continue completing my to do list and prep for a client call, I am shadowing. I have the opportunity to shadow a different team to mine to see how they interact and help the client in a different way to my team.

3-5PM

The last portion of my day I dedicated to my apprenticeship work. I do this three times a week to stay on top of my portfolio and assignments. My company understands the importance of giving me this time to focus on my portfolio and I use a Pomodoro technique to make the most of the time and to keep me pushing through until the end of the day.

That’s the end of my day! Thanks for reading, I hope this has shown you a glimpse into what it is like working from home as a digital marketing apprentice. I also made a TikTok of my day which is on the Apprentice Network account!
