Why Should I Choose An Apprenticeship?

So, What is an Apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a paid job where the employee learns and gains valuable experiences.

Alongside on-the-job training, apprentices spend at least 20% of their working hours completing classroom-based learning with a college, university or training provider which leads to a nationally recognised qualification.

What are the Benefits of an Apprenticeship?

  • Get hands-on experience
  • Benefit from support systems and learning aids
  • Get paid to learn
  • Get industry-recognised qualifications
  • Get a feel for the work environment

Should I do an Apprenticeship or go to University?

Apprenticeships appeal to those looking for alternatives to university as they take a more practical approach to learning. You’ll focus on training for a specific career and learn your trade by actually doing the job. You’ll gain hands-on experience and have the opportunity to apply your skills immediately.

If you are studying for a degree, it will cost you around £9,250 per year in tuition fees, plus additional living expenses. You’ll leave university with student debt

Apprenticeship National Wage

If you’re aged between 16 and 18 the rate currently stands at £4.81. This rate also applies to those aged 19 or over who are currently in their first year of training.

If you’re under 25 the government and your employer will fund your training, so you don’t have to pay a penny.

Qualifications

During your apprenticeship, will work towards one or more qualifications. These qualifications will relate to the level of apprenticeship you’re doing, which is based on how complex and advanced the job you’re training for is. Some apprenticeship schemes will give you the chance to work towards more than one qualification.
