Are Apprenticeships a good route to go down?
Throughout previous years the most common career path for the younger generation to go down would be applying for University. I do understand that University can be beneficial for many career paths, however a hefty student loan to pay back, no job guarantee at the end of it and tedious lectures isn’t a path that everyone wants to go down. However, recently more and more people finishing sixth form and college are choosing to go down the apprenticeship route. This is because you can earn while you learn and are picking up valuable skills, you’re also exposed to work in a workplace environment and can essentially have a 3 year head start on industry skills on anyone that’s going to University. Applying for an Apprenticeship is also a great option if you aren’t 100% sure what you want to do in the long run, as it allows you to chop and change from different parts of an industry so you can work out for yourself what you enjoy most, and what you’d like to do in the long run. Of course there’s no guarantee of a job at the end, however there is a high chance as the company that’s trained you up for you too learn there skills and ways, aren’t going to put all that hard work into your training to then let you potentially go to a competitor company after your scheme has finished.
Overall, in my personal opinion an Apprenticeship is a great path to go down as it gives you hands on experience in a workplace environment, also allowing you to earn money whilst you learn new skills at the same time!
