Promoting Apprenticeships in the UK

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeship or University?

My name is Bilal and I got into Digital Marketing quite early on when I self-taught myself about Facebook advertising and from there I always knew what I wanted to do. Most of us got told to go the traditional route of going to university and then figuring out what to do. For someone that already knew what he wanted to do it didn’t make sense to me so I started to explore other options and then came across something called apprenticeships, where you could jump straight into the deep end and continue to learn while on the job. This was perfect for me as I already knew what I wanted to do and I am more of a visual learner so this would go well. When I found out I could work at one of the leading companies in the industry It was a no brainer for me over going to university. A university education allows you to target a broader range of careers than you can through an apprenticeship. Apprenticeships are restrictive in the sense that the training and skills you gain are specific to a particular industry or role but luckily for me the skills I wanted to gain was in the role I was applying for anyways. My role in my apprenticeship is a biddable assistant and on a day to day I use Facebook & Google advertising for clients while also reporting on results weekly/monthly. Working at this company has been a very good experience and I think has accelerated my growth as I now know what its like to work in the media sector. I wouldn’t have got this until much later if I went to university. There are pros and cons to both apprenticeships and university but in my case this was the best choice.
