5 Benefits of doing an Apprenticeship

EARNING WHILE LEARNING

There are many people who have to pay for the qualifications that they need to work in their industry. Whilst they are paying for this qualification, some people struggle to afford other luxuries in life. Apprenticeships are great as you are the one being paid to earn the qualification. What more could you ask for?

GAINING A QUALIFICATION

Moving forward in your career, having a qualification to add to your CV is very impressive for employers. It shows them that you have been dedicated to learning about the industry, and are committed. Also, having these qualifications will allow you to broaden your knowledge, as well as apply for higher qualifications in the future.

MAKING UP FOR LOST TIME

Although it is very popular for the younger generation to apply for apprenticeships, there are many occasions where older people become apprentices too. The great thing about this is that they do not have to adapt to the learning lifestyle again. They can continue to be in a work environment, whilst learning on the go.

YOU CAN EARN A COMPETITIVE SALARY

What you earn will depend on the industry, location and type of apprenticeship you choose. If you’re aged 16 to 18 or in the first year of your apprenticeship, you’re entitled to the apprentice rate. If you’re 19 or over and have completed the first year of your apprenticeship, you’re entitled to the National Minimum Wage.

It is very common for employers to pay a lot more and offer their apprentices a competitive salary.

LOTS OF EXPERIENCE

An apprenticeship helps you to stay ahead of university graduates by providing you with hands-on training and giving you real experience in the working world. Put simply, you’ll get valuable experience within your chosen industry, helping you boost your CV and making employers view you as an asset to their organisation. Many university degrees don’t come with this level of work experience so  graduates often have to do free work experience to gain the knowledge in their desired field, which means that you’d be one step ahead.
