Finding the Future: The Interview

Here at The Apprenticeship Network, we understand how daunting the Interview process can be. Having to go for a role that you have not done before and stepping into a new industry can bring anxiety to the strongest of personalities. Rest assured you are not alone in this and we here see many people have different struggles and some of the same within the process.

Here is are some base tips,

  1. Research the company: Before the interview, learn as much as you can about the company, its products or services, and its mission. This will help you understand what the company is looking for in a candidate and will allow you to ask informed questions during the interview.
  2. Practice your responses: Prepare answers to common interview questions, such as “Tell me about yourself” or “Why do you want to work here?” Practice your responses in front of a mirror or with a friend or family member.
  3. Dress appropriately: Dress professionally and conservatively for the interview. Your appearance should be clean, neat, and well-groomed.
  4. Arrive on time: Be punctual and arrive on time for the interview. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early to allow for any unexpected delays.
  5. Be polite and professional: Greet your interviewer with a firm handshake, maintain eye contact, and be polite and professional throughout the interview.
  6. Sell yourself: Be confident and highlight your skills and experience that are relevant to the job. Emphasize your strengths and how they can benefit the company.
  7. Ask questions: Prepare a few questions to ask the interviewer. This shows that you are interested in the company and the position, and also gives you an opportunity to learn more about the job and the company culture.
  8. Follow up: After the interview, send a thank-you email or note to the interviewer. This is a good way to show your appreciation for the opportunity and to reiterate your interest in the position.

Remember that practice makes perfect, and your first interview might not always be your last. The key thing to remember is that every experience is there to grow you and compel you to learn from them.
