How to ace your interview!

There is no denying interviews can feel very daunting, (we’ve all been there don’t worry!) but you’ve already taken the first step in the right directions – RESEARCH! If you are taking the time to read this blog and research into best ways to ace your interview, I can already tell that you are going to do great. Preparation and research go hand in hand and is the number 1 way to enter the interview room feeling confident.

What to research:

  1. Researching the company is the best place to start, you want to highlight to your interview you have an interest in the business and have taken the time to understand their business purpose and history.
  2. Next, try to gain an understanding if possible of who will be interviewing you. Some smaller companies may have a list of their organisation structure. Or you can always use Linkedin!
  3. Common interview questions, (I have listed some below) I would recommend getting a friend or family member to practise asking you some of the questions, this way you have a response in mind. This will help you feel less like you’ve been put on the spot and more prepared to answer whatever the interviewer asks.
  4. Understand each aspect of the job description, if there is a part of the job description you feel you don’t fully understand that’s okay, take some time to research the area, is there any online free training you could do? It’s okay not to tick every box on the job description, but make sure you show a willingness to learn.
  5. Plan your outfit – The last thing you want to be stressing about on the morning of your interview is what to wear. Below I have listed some tips on finding your perfect interview outfit…

Planning your outfit:

To some planning what you are going to wear to an interview may feel rather trivial. However, I believe what you wear can have a big impact in how you feel and how others perceive you. It is important to dress for the job – by that I mean if you are going for a role where you know it’s a very relaxed culture and jeans and a top is appropriate then that is what you should be wearing. However, if you are unsure, I feel it is best to go more formal than not. Firstly, I would recommend making sure your outfit feels comfortable and fitting to you, your style and personality. After all, you want to feel like you can be yourself!

Common Interview Questions to pratice:

  • Tell me about yourself.
  • How would you describe yourself?
  • Why do you want to work here?
  • What are your greatest strengths and weaknesses?
  • Tell me about a challenge or conflict you overcame at work.
  • What motivates you?
  • How do you handle stress?
  • Why are you leaving your current job?
  • What are your goals for the future?

I would just like to finish this blog by saying be confident in yourself and your abilities and let your personality shine through and you will have great success in your interview! Enjoy it!
