Promoting Apprenticeships in the UK

How to become a successful Apprentice

Becoming a successful apprentice doesn’t happen overnight. Apprenticeships are designed to be a learning journey for those who are starting up in their desired career. It is perfectly normal to make mistakes throughout your apprenticeship. However, by overcoming these mistakes and improving yourself for the future creates a good impression on your employer. So, what are the main tips to becoming a successful apprentice?

Punctuality is a crucial value that all apprentices should master. Being punctual allows yourself to gain trust from your employer and team. Being able to be on time can reassure your team that you are productive in the workplace, therefore bringing efficiency.

Having drive and motivation is another huge factor that an apprentice must have. This is important for not only your team but yourself, if you are not motivated to work, then how can you succeed. If there’s a specific thing that is making you feel unmotivated speak with manager and see if there can be adjustments to the workplace. Some people find that they are unmotivated because the apprenticeship field is not what they expected. By speaking with your manager can help you to explore different areas within your company.

Challenging yourself. Being able to come out of your comfort zone allows you to be independent and to not always rely on your team. Challenging yourself leads to new experiences, connecting with new people and clients will build opportunities for the future. You can challenge yourself in small ways, like me, throughout my apprenticeship I chose to challenge myself by speaking up on my client calls. By speaking up in the calls helped me to build my confidence for the future.

Communication is a key factor in your apprenticeship, communication can help yourself and your team work efficiently. Without communication, you don’t have a team relationship. Communication provides purpose, accountability, and growth. Being able to communicate with your manager can build a transparent relationship.

Always remember that apprenticeships are a learning experience and you should always challenge yourself in order to grow.
