About Me
Hiya, my name is Olu Oshisanya. I am 11 months into my apprenticeship with Multiverse working under a company called Mediacom, the Uk’s No1 Media Agency
In this blog I will be detailing you about my apprentice experience and why YOU should go down the apprenticeship path if you are feeling unsure about your future options.
Before Mediacom
Before I started my apprenticeship I was working at McDonald’s part-time and I had no prior digital marketing experience. This was because I was still a sixth-form student studying for my A-levels amidst the trials of the pandemic. As you can probably tell this was definitely a very stressful period of my life. This is because I was very unsure of what I wanted to do in the future. Uni was an option however I wasn’t too keen on putting myself into debt and potentially not even needing to have a degree in order to work in my industry of choice.
Joining Multiverse
Once I had completed my A-levels , I decided that University wasn’t the correct option for me, despite whatever my results were. So I decided to look elsewhere. As I’d always had a fondness in digital marketing I decided to look for places that could accommodate my interest. This drew me towards Multiverse. Which is a company that provides apprenticeships for a multitude of things with great wages. It almost sounded to good to be true! Once I discovered them, I instantly decided to apply, the application process was quite simple actually and only entailed a few credentials and a video statement on why you have chosen an apprenticeship.
Being Accepted Into Mediacom
Once I had been accepted into Multiverse, I suffered a dry spell where I kept getting rejected from roles and interviews, this was definitely a setback for me as I had planned to start ASAP. Luckily this was a blessing in disguise as it motivated me to practice and hone my interview skills and improve my CV. This worked well as I eventually ended up receiving offers from two companies. Mediacom & Omnicom, however I decided to choose Mediacom due to their high prestige in the marketing industry. This was a turning point for me as it was a good fresh start to my career
My Apprenticeship Experience
For the first part of my apprenticeship, I have joined the Comms Planning Team. This means that the clients that we cover are Sky and Now Tv. This is quite a large unit as it only covers one very large client, as opposed to the others which cover more smaller accounts. In the business unit, it is split into a plethora of teams which cover a range of things from: Sky Glass, to Sky Mobile. My team however, is quite large as it consists of an Senior Associate Director, 2 Account Director, Account Manager, 2 Planners and 2 other execs alongside me. This is really useful as it allows me to get support from all avenues meaning that I can learn new things from each of them respectively. Which is ideal as it allows me to work across a range of different campaigns, from Sports to Cinema. Recently our team has expanded with two newer execs. Working alongside them has been very helpful to me as it also allows me to develop some teaching/mentoring skills. This gives me the opportunity to impart all my knowledge onto them whilst cementing everything I’ve learnt myself.
Advantages Of Being An Apprentice
Here is a list of advantages I have picked up from my time of being an apprentice.
- Meet a ton of new people
- Earn a good amount of money whilst also learning
- Work experience ahead of university students (experience matters!!)
- Paid for qualification
- Social work events (Amazing Parties)
- No Uni Debt
Summary
To Summarize, I want to say thank you for reading my journey. I just wanted to spread awareness and break the stigma of people not fully exploring their options when looking for further education. If you were like me before and unsure of what to do after completing your A-levels. I would definitely have a look around on Multiverse and see if there is anything that piques your interest.
