There are three cornerstone pieces to a successful apprenticeship scheme. A good employer, a good coach, and a good apprentice. With these you can increase odds of a successful apprenticeship.
A apprenticeship is a mix between university and the working world (well closer to the working world as you will actually have a job!)
Coaches and employers will support you along your journey but at the end of the day this is your story and you will depict how it turns out. Ask questions, offer ideas and solutions, and being engaged are what you can do to improve your chances.
You aren’t expected to be the best on day one, that’s highly unlikely anyway! You are here to learn and will be supported . There are dont’s that come with the do’s however. You may be arriving here after school and sixth form. It is important to respect your workplace and employer. Things such as arriving late, browsing social media and slacking are frowned upon so make sure you are ready to make an effort.
This parts for you employers! Though there isn’t too much to mention.
Taking on an apprentice, especially if it is your first time is very different from hiring a normal employee. As stated above they won’t be the best starting off but they will grow into their role and will be seeking your guidance! It can be hard to ask for help a lot of the time especially for younger people, they will be asking lots of questions and you should too! There is always something to improve on.
In the end this is a relationship between all parties where each person winning means everyone wins!
