The Stats:
According to the apprenticeships.gov.uk website 86% of employers said apprenticeships helped them develop skills relevant to their organisations. 78% of employers said apprenticeships helped them improve productivity and 74% of employers said apprenticeships helped them improve the quality of their product of service.
I looked at a deep dive on to the reasons behind these statistics and narrowed it down to 8 individual benefits as to why it’s so beneficial for organisations to have apprenticeship schemes.
1. Hardworking and passionate staff
With the amount of young people choosing to go to university after college decreasing, there is an influx of people looking for alternative routes into a career path. These young people are eager to learn and keen to work hard in order to make money along side learning new skills.
2. Increased productivity
Studies have shown that over 80% of businesses that employ apprentices found their productivity increased as a result.
3. Innovation within the workplace
Having apprentices provide organisations with the skilled workers you need for the future as well as keeping them upskilled on technical advances.
4. Positive impact on youth unemployment
More and more young people are struggling to find jobs, however with apprenticeship schemes it allows people with no experience to gain that experience, with more businesses creating this opportunity for new employees allows that percentage of youth unemployed to decrease.
5. Puts your business in the spotlight
Creating new opportunities for young people puts your organisations reputation in the spotlight, showing that an organisation is doing their bit to support society as a whole.
6. Reducing costs
Training costs are usually government funded for many apprentices. You can find more information on costs covered by the Government here. Up-skilling existing staff is also a much more cost efficient and skill valued way rather than hiring new employees.
7. Aid Staff Retention
Build long lasting loyalty. Apprenticeship programs encourage young apprentices to consider their job as a career, which is often the reason they stay committed to a business for longer.
8. Tailored to your business
Apprenticeships are mainly tailored to specific job roles, making them meet the business needs.
