In the everchanging world, the career landscape is forever changing with it too. Hence why the introduction of.. apprenticeships came along!

So first of all, What exactly is an apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships are designed to train and develop individuals in the specific skills that they need to allow them to prosper in their chosen career, whether that be Digital Marketing, Accounting, Health, basically whatever you choose! It is a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical work-based learning, which is delivered through high-quality interactive learning, online assessments and personalised one-to-one support from your own coach.

Now you know what an apprenticeship is, it brings us onto the big question!

Why do an apprenticeship?

Here are my top 5 reasons for choosing an Apprenticeship.

1. You’ll immediately enter the world of work

One of the most important things when building your career is getting the right and enough experience. Through being part of a company from day 1 you’re able to gain invaluable on-the-job experience and be able to network that can set you well on your course for your dream career. On the plus side, University graduates often struggle with the lack of practical work experience. By doing an apprenticeship, you will be ahead by 1-3 years of work experience in a professional setting which will set you apart as you continue.

   2. No Debt

An apprenticeship enables you to first of all to skip out what most students transitioning to University dread… is debt! There is no debt accumulated during your entire time as an apprentice and what is great is you get to earn a decent salary while doing it. In addition to this, apprenticeships aren’t just for younger people. Anyone not already in full time education can enrol and apprenticeships can be an amazing step in changing careers.

   3. Professional Qualification

As well as gaining a nationally recognised and professional qualification, an apprenticeship allows you to develop the necessary skills and experience needed to excel your career successfully into the future. There are a plethora of opportunities to progress onto bigger things and continue to grow. Moreover, if you have plans of one day being your own boss, the knowledge and skills gained from the apprenticeship programme could help you set up your own business in the future.

   4. Enjoy what you do

As time is going on, the stigma of not going to university is disappearing more from todays society more and more every year! So for those students who are confused or not sure what they want to do, apprenticeships are a great way to figure out what you want to do while not accumulating debt while figuring yourself out. All in all, everyone should aim to enjoy what they do and apprenticeships can help anyone, no matter the age, decide what avenue is best for them in career terms.

   5. Support and guidance

When completing your apprenticeship, don’t fear as you’re not alone. During your apprenticeship time, you will have a coach by your side to help you with any queries or concerns you have while also being alongside other fellow apprentices who can relate to you. Along with, highly experienced people at your workplace that will definitely want to help you in whatever way they can, so don’t be shy to ask questions!

There are more and more communities being created as a result of more and more apprenticeships available like here at The Apprenticeship Network!

Now you may be thinking this is right up your street and aligns with you but

how do you get an apprenticeship?

There are thousands of agencies and company’s running today to help you in your process of finding the perfect apprenticeship for you. First of all, research! Research about a few industries you like and narrow it down to one you most like the sound of. After that, look around for some reviews or blogs like here on the apprenticeship network website to see how others got on or if they recommend any companies/agencies. Finally, apply! Look around and search for your chosen industry apprenticeship roles in your area and some amazing jobs will come up. The best piece of advice is to just apply for as many as you can because having a plethora of opportunities is way better than having only one. Remember, don’t give up or lose confidence because one you wanted, you don’t end up getting. It just means there is something greater waiting for you 🙂

“As one door closes, another door opens.”  – Speaking from someone who is nearly finishing their apprenticeship and has enjoyed every aspect of it so far.
