Would you prefer to gain new skills and knowledge, and get paid while doing it? Apprenticeships are the way to go! But why should new career starters apply for an apprenticeship? They used to only be available to those in the labor industry, such as Plumbers or Construction workers. However, in recent years they have become readily available in nearly every industry of work. Not only this, but they are available to people of all ages – whether you’re 18 or 42. Some of the perks as an apprentice include:
- You have a workplace ‘mentor’ or ‘line manager’ that will help and guide you throughout the process, allowing you to learn from existing industry experts.
- You have a designated ‘coach’ from the training provider to support you along your educational needs.
- You’re given guaranteed off the job time to study each week.
- You have the chance to learn and develop your skills, with your surrounding workers understanding your developmental needs.
- You get to create a large network of contacts, including potential future employers.
Apprenticeships allow you to work and gain a new qualification, whether you are a new or current employee to the business. Many businesses pay more than the apprentice wage for their apprenticeships, alongside tax and travel discounts for apprentices. For many people, University or College is the best route however, not everyone learns best in a classroom environment and Apprenticeships provide the perfect resolution.
