Promoting Apprenticeships in the UK

Uni & Debt or Earning & Learning?

What to do next after school?

Whether you are finishing up you A-levels, BTEC or college in general, thinking about what you wish to do next is always daunting. But have no fear the Apprenticeship Network is here! University is no longer the social norm. Students have spent around 15 years of their life in school. Spending another 3-4 years just doesn’t sound appealing anymore.

Work-based learning is a game changer. It’s like test driving a career, and I have seen it in action with our registered apprenticeship programs for high school students.

This is where apprenticeships come into play. An alternative where you can get work experience, qualification and a salary. A much more better deal than stress, sleepless nights and debt if you ask me. However, i understand that you would need more than my personal opinion to completely persuade you. So I’ve listed 6 reasons below.

6 Reasons why to do an apprenticeship

For many, the apprenticeship route is not such an obvious choice. But for those who are motivated to get started in the job market, an apprenticeship is an excellent way of gaining essential experience. Below are more reasons why an apprenticeship may be the best choice for you.

  • Earn While You Learn – Apprentices will have the same opportunities as employees, earning a weekly wage and working alongside experienced staff.
  • No Debt – Those who started university in England in 2015 could well face a debt of £30,000 by the time they graduate.
  • Practical And Relevant Experience – Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers, and offer a structured programme that coaches you through the skills you need to be successful.
  • Strengthen Your CV – When it comes to building transferable skills to attract employers, an apprenticeship is an excellent choice.
  • Build Your Contacts – Our apprenticeship experiences will get you involved with the day to day running of the business. Naturally, you will be meeting a lot of people.

In conclusion, even with many reasons as to why an apprenticeship is a more beneficial route than university. At the end of the day you need to determine what best applies to your situation and needs.
