We have broken down 3 simple skills that will help you get ahead and keep you on track during your apprenticeship. To make sure you don’t miss out, keep reading to find out some secret tips to help you before you start your apprenticeship.
1) ORGANISATION
Get ready as you will be in demand, you will be managing your time between a full-time job role and a full-time qualification – which will stretch you as you will be doing exams and bootcamps. Meaning, you need to be ready and get organised!
Tips:
- Manage your time – You will need to learn how to manage your time and start thinking of ways you may have previously done it. This can be done by using simple organisation tools and methods. A perfect example of a toll would be : https://trello.com/. Stay on top of this and keep it updated otherwise you will loose track!
- Equipment – Make sure you all the necessary equipment you will need for new role for example a laptop, notebook and a workspace.
- Managing your study – This step can be done using your calendar. Slot in times for studying using your calendar and send invites to your employer to make them aware.
2)FINANCIAL MANAGMENT
As a apprentice, something that is normally never talked about is finances! When you find out your salary / wage you can work out and budget according to that. A few things you may need to consider :
- Travel Costs
- Working from home electric bills
- Lunch
- Subscriptions like gym
To help you with this you can create a spreadsheet that breaks down monthly costs and can help you manage your finances.
3) RESEARCH
Research isn’t compulsory but it will definitely give you a head start in helping you understand the company you have joined. When it comes to research there is two types :
- Job Role : Find out where you will be working on day-to-day and research the key areas. Try and learn any new grammar that might get you ahead / give you more of a insight in the industry.
- The Company : You should look into the company to see what they might have to offer in terms of improvement like opportunities and career progression.
